1. Individual Freedom is Protected
A nation of character does not violate the freedom of its citizens. A strong social position does not give a person or organization the right to force their views on others.
Today, companies and organizations that morally oppose the Obama administration’s HHS mandate are being told they have “No Choice”, they have no freedom. Ironic for an administration that claims “Choice” is what they’re all about.
If I believe it is morally wrong to fund abortion, my government does not have the right to force my hand. A nation of character protects individual freedom.
2. Human Rights are Protected
A nation of character protects the rights of its most vulnerable members. The ethnic minorities, the poor, the sick, the dying.
A great nation is one that shows compassion to its weakest members and offers comfort and support. Surely, none are more vulnerable than those preparing to be born and those preparing to die. We do not have the right to kill a human being because it is socially convenient. A nation of character protects human rights.
3. Religious Freedom is Protected
A person’s religious beliefs are core to their existence. The United States was founded on the principle of “Religious Freedom”. Our forefathers understood that religious freedom was a core value. They were aware that people held strong religious views often in conflict with one another and that every individual has the right to follow their religious beliefs without interference from the government. A nation of character protects religious freedom.
